Background ...

Helen Houlden has been decorating cakes for nearly 29 years. She studied the City & Guilds '121' at Grimsby Technical College and the '790' at South Notts College of Further Education. She has won Bronze and Gold medals for her fruit cake and has been a member of the British Sugarcraft Guild for 20 years.

She has been teaching and demonstrating for 13 years and has appeared on the TV programme, Granada Breeze with some of her creations.

In January 1999 she had the pleasure of making the wedding cake for professional golfer, Lee Westwood, on his marriage to Laurae Coltart, here in Nottinghamshire and had also made the cake some years earlier for professional footballer, Ian Woan, on his marriage to Kelly Sams.

Helen is classed as one of the top 10 cake designers in the country by the bridal magazines, and articles about her have been presented in Sugarcraft Magazines and other local publications.

Thank you for visiting my web site. Here you will see a small selection of my exclusive cakes. I make wedding cakes, corporate cakes and very special cakes, all handcrafted especially for you.

Although in the past I have sent cakes by courier all over the country, I don't now do that and only make cakes for delivery within a 30 mile radius of Nottingham. This is because I don't have the time to do that any more.

My Cakes ...

I do not have set designs as I like to work individually using ideas, colours, fabrics, embroidery patterns or any theme or personal touch you wish to incorporate into the design. This ensures the cake is truly exclusive to you - traditional, unusual, classical, exotic, novel - whatever you, the customer, require.

There are many different ways of displaying and decorating cakes and if you do not see what you have in mind on these pages, I will still be able to make it for you.

Shapes ...

The square gives the largest number of portions and the teardrop gives the smallest number. Other shapes I have besides square are round, hexagonal and oval. As portions and shape vary so much, an exact price list is impossible.

I only produce one cake per week and dates fill up quickly. I do not take bookings for the new year before September of the previous year.
 
Demonstrations
Helen has taught and demonstrated sugarcraft for many years and although she will not be teaching anymore, she will still be available to demonstrate to large groups now and again. She has in the past appeared on a wedding programme on Granada Breeze TV and she has been profiled in many publications.
